![]() ![]() Inferiority Superiority Complex: His IDW self is convinced he's destined for greatness (to the point of believing he's going to be a Prime someday).Escape Artist: Has a reputation for Houdini-esque escapes.Embarrassing Nickname: In the IDW comics, he was given the name "Getaway" after fleeing from his first battle. He still managed to get his troops to safety. Determinator: The Armornecking Incident had Getaway battered, broken and absent a working gun.Character Focus: After being mainly used as a recurring gag character by Furman (due to Furman turning Getaway into an Ironic Name), More Than Meets The Eye gives him an expanded role as a main character.Adaptational Villainy: In the first IDW continuity, particularly in the latter half of More Than Meets The Eye.He's a genius strategist, capable of analysing situations on the fly, and has no known weakness. The Ace: Described as such by his TF Universe profile.A Powermaster, he is frequently binary bonded to a Nebulan engineer named Rev. He's also not above using deceiving and manipulating his own allies to get what he wants. "Run hot, but always keep your cool."A smooth talking escape artist with mind like a steel trap, Getaway has a legendary reputation for figuring a way out of sticky situations. Token Evil Teammate: They have several comrades who are willing to take more unscrupulous means to win and/or very unpleasant in character, most famously the Dinobots, and also the Monsterbots.None of them were particularly suited to combat, but were forced to learn how to fight in order to survive. Reluctant Warrior: The majority of Autobots were workers, archivists, etc before the war broke out.In the 2005 IDW continuity, the name stems from "automaton", describing all Cybertronians, but was later retrofitted to mean "autonomous", representing Optimus Prime's faction. The first wave of Autobots released in 1984 only transformed into cars and trucks, or automobiles. ![]() He Who Fights Monsters: Millenia of war have affected some Autobots worse than others, causing them to be almost as ruthless as the Decepticons.Depending on the Writer: While the Autobots are always the good guys of the franchise, certain iterations have dialled back how benevolent they were to begin with, and given the pre-war society flaws and past mistakes that actually helped to set the war against the Decepticons in motion. In the third season, they put together a peace conference to try and convince two warring planets to stop their fighting. The Autobots as a whole could never turn their back on those in need, stepping in to help others (mostly humans) whenever they could. Chronic Hero Syndrome: Most apparent in the original cartoon.Authority Equals Asskicking: The Autobot leader isn't chosen because of physical strength, but leaders of the faction are often upgraded into stronger forms upon being promoted, such as Orion Pax to Optimus Prime and Hot Rod to Rodimus Prime.Zeta, Sentinel, Star Saber, and even Getaway are the most prominent examples of this. In other words, as Jetfire puts it, these Autobots are just a group of "thugs with a badge". Adaptational Villainy: Definitely not Optimus and his Autobot allies but in the first IDW continuity, some Autobots (such as the top brass under Zeta) are either Dirty Cops, Knight Templars, or Corrupt Politicians.Luckily, Character Development occurred for most of them (even Optimus). Adaptational Jerkass: Some Autobots got hit with this in the 2005 IDW continuity, such as Arcee (an Ax-Crazy Anti-Hero), Prowl (a Well-Intentioned Extremist), Hot Rod/Rodimus (an egotistical Glory Hound), and even Optimus (also a Well-Intentioned Extremist) himself.Joe to fight back against Cobra and eventually turning the tide after Optimus Prime breaks free of Cobra's control and convinces the Joes to help liberate the rest of the Autobots. The first miniseries starts with Cobra capturing and enslaving both Cybertronian factions to use as weapons after they arrived on Earth and a bunch of soldiers who discovered these circumstances forming G.I. the Transformers establishes their civil war with the Decepticons as indirectly leading to Cobra's rise as a formidable terrorist organization as well as G.I.
